On Friday, 14th August, Taiwan has signed one of the biggest deals of the history with the United States. The purchase of F-16 jets has been finalised from Lockheed Martin, the US aircraft manufacturer.
Taiwan Signed $62 Billion Deal To Buy US F-16 Jets
The deal was previously finalised at the cost of US $8 Billion. On Friday, Pentagon, a 10 year, $62 billion deal for Lockheed Martin to the production of F-16 foreign military aircraft. The reports haven’t revealed about the buyer but the sources reveal that Taiwan is one of them.
In 1992, Taiwan had already purchased F-16 aircraft. The self-ruled island, that China calls the part of its territory has got the green light from America to the deal of 66 new generation F-16.
The newest deal, pentagon says about the starting delivery of 90 jets, the deal is about new modern aircraft with advance technologies and weaponry. Beijing says “The island of 23 million people, Taiwan has been self-ruling since 1949 and it is the part of its territory but it will respond if Taipayis demand any official independence.
In 1997, Washington is the state which has shifted diplomatic recognition from Taipei to Beijing, has been Taiwan’s most main arms supplier along with the most powerful ally. Lockheed contract comes into the light as Beijing wants to show its power in Hong Kong. It throws security law on the international hub. It has become a matter of concern in the country. Still, it is raging from Beijing, two days later a visit to Taiwan, since 1979 by the highest-level US delegation from military to trade and security issues such as human rights to coronavirus.
